Simran

The Love Story Lehenga

Simran knew the lehenga she wanted. She had tried one like it, and she asked us to follow it and make it her own.

She did not stop at the silhouette. Their story, from the year they met to the year they brought Oreo home, is stitched into the latkans, and her veil carries both their names, their wedding date and one small paw.

This is how it was made.

Chapter I · The vision

The lehenga she already loved

Simran came to us with photographs of a lehenga she had tried on, and one clear request: follow it, and make it hers.

These pictures were our starting point.

Chapter II · The details

Every detail, noted

We went through the references with her, detail by detail: the motifs on each panel, the neckline of the blouse, the long sweep of the veil. Nothing was left to guesswork.

Chapter III · The colour

Blush, matched by hand

Her blush was matched thread by thread on our shade card, then worked into a swatch, so she could see the colour and the embroidery together before the full lehenga began.

Chapter IV · On paper

Drawn panel by panel

A lehenga like this is built from kalis, the long flared panels that give it its sweep. Each kali was drawn at full scale, and the sleeves with it.

Chapter V · On the frame

Kali after kali

Then the long work on the adda: zardosi, dabka and stonework, built up kali after kali.

At every stage we sent Simran the progress, so she watched her lehenga grow from the first stitch.

Chapter VI · The blouse

Many hands on one blouse

The blouse was worked by our karigars together around one frame, its neckline and panels embroidered in the same language as the lehenga.

Chapter VII · Their story

A love story in the latkans

On the latkans, the small hanging tassels that swing with every step, we embroidered their story in three lines.

2014: met in DPS. 2017: moved to Bangalore. 2021: got Oreo.

Chapter VIII · The veil

Two names, one date, one paw

Her veil carries their names, Simran and Chirag, the date of their wedding, and a small paw for Oreo, all worked in zardosi.

The veil border was finished in cutwork, and the dupatta border embroidered to match.
